The Ides Of March by Alex Horton
The
article "The Ides of March" by Alex Horton is about soldiers’ lost of
the brotherhood in combat. The author talked about his memories and how he lost
his friend Chevy who was killed during the battle by explosion. His sadness over the loss of him is deep and unforgettable.
His brothers and he will keep this sad feeling in their heart forever. Going to
war, protecting and serving the country is one of the honorable things to do, but it brings in people's life so much sadness, besides proud and happiness. This article reminds me
that one of my classmates changed so much after he went to war and I felt sorry
for him so see him trying so hard to fit back in a normal life, and visibly it wasn’t easy for
him. I really liked the Chevy’s squad leader’s memory words and it left me in
tears :(
Writing Process Now
I am so comfortable writing essays and making analysis on the films now.
I know I make lots of grammar mistakes and my vocabulary is limited, but I don’t
scare to write in English anymore. Over the course, I spent my time, money and
energy and I am satisfied with my progress so far. I think I am improving day
by day and little by little. My past English classes and my hard work brought
me at this level of English. Probably, in comparison with the other students, my vocabulary
is not strong enough, but I am so happy where I am now. I will not give up and I know
that I can keep going. Over the English 101 course, I read many essays from the
textbooks, and it was very interesting. I have knowledge of how to do critical
analysis and even I have my own blog now.
Don't Make English Official- Ban It Instead by Dennis Baron
The article "Don't Make English Official - Ban It Instead" by Dennis Baron focuses on congress is considering legislation of making English the official language of the United State. I know that in many countries’ 2nd official language is an English and the 1st International language is an English. So, Dennis Baron’s idea was ban English instead in the United States. The main concentration of Dennis is the countries’ security, tradition and independence. Also, one of his reasons was many people do not even know how to properly write, read, or even speak English. He is right because broken English is everywhere but his idea is not good one also. I don’t think many Americans do speak 2nd languages because they don’t need to learn it.

Drawn to a Larger Scale by Alex Williams
I read about the Scott
Campbell story and how his career took off. I felt uncomfortable when I read
that his rebelliousness inspired him to get his first tattoo- a skull on his
leg- at 15, to his mother’s horror. She sat me on her lap and said: Scott, you
could murder and I’ll still be proud to call you my son. But if you get a
tattoo, I’ll shoot you myself”(William). What kind of mother is she? Well… I
wonder how he took these words as an inspiration? I don’t think title “Drawn to a Larger Scale”
really fit the profile on Scott. I think that author did really well at telling
Scott Campbell’s story without starting from when he was a kid and taking the
reader through his life in order. This profile was about Campbell’s passion and
sincerity towards his craft really came through and was clear from Williams’
writing.

If You Are What You Eat, Then What Am I? by Geeta Kothari
I think this story will
remind the experiences about the changes in most of the people's life such as traditional foods, and culture who moved to a different country or different states. In the story,
Kothari describes her relationship with her parents and differences between
their choices and likes in food. I think that the introduction to Kothari's
narrative works very well for this essay. In the story, there are numbers of
different elements and she described them very well detailed. Each
part of the story is told in a completely different time setting including her
childhood, after she grown up and the moment she became to realize about the
thoughts she had before and how they had changed.
My writing process before college
I was always B+ student when comes writing in my mother tongue. Before I start taking English classes at the college, I tended to avoid writing in English as much as I could because it was not comfortable
and I often found myself struggling with it. The writing in English was not
required in my life somehow anyways. When I decided go to college, I forced
myself to settle down in 20 minutes to write something in English daily because
I knew the fact that if I don’t practice daily; I will never going to improve my English
and not able to keep up with my college programs. I took though a lot of English classes until I was able to take the regular credit classes at Waubonsee Community College.
