How to read complex material

The last semester on my english 70, I learned how to read complex materials. To be honest, it is a little complicated to use in life when I am reading complex materials. Anyways, I know that when I am reading complex materials I suppose to think critical. For example, asking question; what who, why, when, where, how and try to answer it. Also, take a note. The complex informations are useful when I am writing essays, presentations, research, revision and exams. The most important thing is to create own plan or proposal to guide the materials and proposal will help to put informations together in my project.

Revised my draft

I had 5 drafts on my Memoir paper because I am not a good writer but I am not quitter; which means I can work on it. My first draft was embarrassing, to compare with my final draft. I went to tutors two times to correct my grammar mistakes and they gave me an ideas about how I can improve my essay. Final draft revised by my classmate. He gave me a couple of ideas about essay and I liked his idea. I rewrote my introduction before I submit my final version to my instructor. I wish I could talk my instructor more about my papers and listen her advises but somehow it never happened.

Thesis

I want to share with you about what my thesis ideas were for my project two because it was one of the things I suppose to write on my blog. In fact, I already turned in my memoir paper to my professor.

My thesis was "I really appreciate him for the role he played in my life and showed me that everything is possible. Here is the how the story begins.

In my opinion, my thesis opened up my introduction and allowed to begin my body paragraphs. I enjoyed writing the essay so much because the project brought me back my childhood memories.

The Help "A feel- Good movie that feels kind of Icky" by Dana Stevens

I read Dana Stevens' online magazines before. Personally, I like to read her stuff once in a while. When I saw her review about movie called The Help on my test book, I felt like I am going to meet someone that I already knew. So, I didn't watch the movie but when I read Dana's reviews, I got the idea.
"The help" raises the eternal question faced by minority we can, or do we demand rich, nuanced, subtle representations right from the start? I get the feeling that The Help reception will be sharply divided by that question." (Steven) It grabbed my attention and made me want to watch the movie    .

Kenneth Cole Gets Schooled by David Sirota

I read the essay is a called "Kenneth Cole gets schooled" by David Sirota.

I am not sure what should I say about this essay. First of all, I am not really familiar with American education system, and I am trying to fit into it for a last couple of years. I like the education system here, to be honest. I liked the author of the article stood up for teachers. I don’t like that Kenneth Cole has shown that he believes teachers are the problem with American educational standards and performances, and sadly this is a popular opinion here, in America. To compare my educational experiences in my native country American standard of education is pretty good. I'm pretty positive that all students know the differences between red and read... So maybe Kenneth Cole shouldn’t make statements like this!!!

First memoir paper

I am writing an essay, that is a narrative and discussion of some of my experiences I had before I was 12 year old and still have meaning for me now. As others, I have lots of precious memories in my life and one of the stories that stands out the most is how my father made a car by himself. It inspired me.
Also, I understood later how he worked hard for his dream come true even though he had problems at the time. I really appreciate my dad for being a good father and the best teacher for me. I am pretty sure that everybody has unforgettable moments in their life.
Also, one of my classmates did a peer review for my paper and I thanked him because he gave me some useful advices. So, I think I am ready for my final grade for my first paper.

Why we hate the smart kids? by Garnt Penrod

After I read the essay that is called “Why we hate the smart kids” by Grant Penrod, I understood that  smart kids are not treated properly in our society. For example, it says that  “The point though, is that the image of intellectualism is disliked as anti-social, and the harm of even a fallacious perception to this effect spread to all of the intelligentsia”. (Penrod)  I do not agree with Grant's idea because I have seen smart kids are society, friendly and fun to be around them. In my opinion, people should treat smart kids fairly same as with other kids. In the essay, it even says that some people calls the smart kid as a nerd, it should not be the case. I think, it is stereotyping but everybody different. Why people hate each other for no reason actually?

Is Google making us stupid?

I just finished reading “Is Google Making Us Stupid?” by Nicolas Carr. The article was interesting because Mr. Carr grew up with books, magazine, televisions and was introduced to the Internet at a later age; therefore, have mixed feelings about the technology. Mr. Carr says he and his friends are noticing many changes with how they read books or think about things in general. Younger people may not understand his point because they have not had similar experiences.
I agree that people have been changed because of the Internet such as the amount of information that is available to us has increased dramatically. It becomes harder to focus on one source for a longer time and we are becoming lonelier despite having hundreds of friends on Facebook but sadly we do not have friends next to us to listen to each other. In the article, it said that, “Google is trying so hard to build artificial brain that is smarter than human brains.” Even though this sentence is controversial, the thing that makes me scared is that it is already happening and happening fast.        The fact that I am so comfortable using the technology makes me loose some of the anxiety.
Is Google making us stupid? Maybe yes and maybe not! What is certain is that it is changing the world so fast and making it such a small place. My question would be actually, without Google, would we have been smarter right now? J?”

Post 1

Personally, I am so excited about this blog because I have never had one before but now I do. This blog is one of my class requirements and I just realized that it is simply a great way to improve my writing. Summer classes seemed tough and fast paced but I will give it a try. I have always been afraid of writing in English because it is not my first language. I am thinking of keeping this blog in the future even after this class. For now I will post every time when I read an article.

Today I will read the article “Is Google making us stupid?” When I saw the title, I thought are you kidding me? Google makes our life much easier than what it use to be and it can’t be make us stupid. I remember when I moved to the U.S., every single thing was bigger than normal such as the country itself, the roads, and foods. I used to get lost a lot and every time when I was lost in middle of a huge road, my only friend was Google map. It still is actually. This article seems interesting and I want to know the why the writer came up with this title. I will post what I think of the article after I read it.
